212★★★ "If a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it is justifiable."
Goals, ranging from small ones belonging to individuals to big ones pursued by some big groups, mainly depend on subject values, is different to diverse recipient. A worthy objective, particularly cherished by some radical people or parties, is well likely sound unrealistic to the others. These goals that both benefit the majority of society and the individual can be really worthy and justifiable to take efforts to be attained.
By this definition, a worth goal can help build a better society. Therefore no efforts should be spared to achieve it, no matter the difficulty. Heading for a better future, we inevitably anticipate a tough road. To save the earth from pollution, which is undoubtedly worthy, for instance, is one no easy job. The process to achieve that will definitely conflict with some people's interest, though few people want to see our habitat turning into a colossal garbage. Some short-sighted businessman and ambitious governments always focus on the booming of economy, regardless of the deteriorating ecological, which pay little role in their promotion. To prevent the earth from falling into a critical level, we should not retreat from our goal.
Even for a worthy goal, not any means is justifiable to get to the destination. The accomplishing of goal is a process, in which every individual's decent interest should be respected. How can we justify that to benefit ourselves at others' expense. Is a country aimed at lifting its people's living quality can execute beggar-thy-neighbor policy? Can cheating in the examination for a higher grade be justified? Or think to deprive the asset of the wealth to help the needy? Definitely, the worthy of the goal cannot justify its means.
Moreover, there are some goals which currently cannot be realized. Then we must analyze the short-time aim and take steps to eventually attain it. The condition of the current is always the base of such goal. Like the communist set the socialism the current goal since the productivity is far below the need for the community. Similarly, in childhood we always set a high goal but cannot take immediate action to make it out. We accept education, and learn from the society for the needing skill, and at large turn our long-treasuring dream into reality, if not has vanished. As on the human level, the great lunar probe project is decomposed to small tasks and eight years flight-test of unmanned spacecraft, which is based on the given conditions. And it was finally come true When Neil Alden Armstrong step down the moon from the Apollo spacecraft.
Above all, a goal must be firstly worthy and the steps to realize it must be based on the given condition, and the means taken to attain it must not violate the other's decent interests. In a word, a worthy goal is justifiable to be attained only if it based on the present and respect the other's goal. |
