Practice 3: Why people attend college

Do you still indulge yourself in the beautiful dream of being a successful celebrity/notable by your bare hands? Even though you don’t tent to waste energy, time and money to obtain a bachelor’s degree, you may still console yourself that education is not the only access to success. Yes, you may cite numerous samples who have gained success but without any degrees. I want to say, this may happen couple of decades before, however, it definitely will not work today, because in the way of achieving success or just a relatively easy and comfortable life, you have to greatly advance your knowledge, build up your social circle, and more importantly, find a decent job to survive first at least.

There are diverse means to acquire knowledge, for instance, many people believe that the society is the best classroom to learn all the abilities you may need to succeed. Personally, I don’t reject this point, nonetheless, I do believe no place other than colleges can provide you the most efficient environment for learning, and issue you the accredited and wide-accepted degrees for you to prove your standard capability. In the college, you can also study with proficient teachers and groups of students who have the same interest just like you, which is scarcely found at any other places. Furthermore, without a degree, it is really hard for you to prove to your boss that you are better than the other applicants, especially for the first short interview.

Additionally, no one can easily succeed without the help of friends. College is also a wonderful place for you to establish the social circle you may need to count on in the future. The bond between college friends is much stronger than that of the friends you make after you start the career, because the most important concern of making friends in the college is interest, not monetary value. Meanwhile, not only college students, but also the college teachers can give you a hand when you need certain help, for example, when you need to find a job after graduation, teachers’ recommendation is always a good source to span a bridge between you and your dream company.

Finally, even without the financial crisis happening right now, it is still hard to find a job you like. According to the current statistics, there are about half of the fresh graduates has to adapt themselves to a field that has no or little relationship to the faculty they have studied in the college. If you don’t even have a diploma or certificate from the college, unquestionably, it will be absolutely hard for you to find any jobs to survive. If surviving is a problem, how would you say you can be successful in the near future?

So, I do believe that attending college is very important for us to achieve a better future by advancing our knowledge, creating friend bond, and find a good job to settle down right after graduation and plan for a long-term career.
