2009.9.11 NA(上周的题目非 9.11)

       it is only worth watching movies that can teach us something about reallife,agree or disagree.

Why we watch movies? Of course we partly want to be educated through the movies. However, sometimes we are motivated to have fun or to spend some time with others together. In that case, movies which is of little value to teach us lessons still worth watching.

There is no denying that we intend to broaden our horizon by viewing various films. We always hope that disaster movies can teach us how to avoid dangers; tragedy can instruct us to understand others' standing points; documentaries can tell us useful knowledge we could gain. More importantly, it is all kinds of movies that teach us how to live our lives and to behavior properly, because we can learn from the characters' experience, prevent those mistakes they make, and follow what they do rightly.

However, even we cannot learn practical knowledge in movies, if they serve as a means to refresh ourselves and satisfy us emotionally, they are worthy of watching to some extent. Not everyone wants to gain some information from movies. Instead, after a long and busy day, they may just want to have a rest by watching an interesting movie. Then comedies and action movies will be of great value for them. For instance, my friend Liu is used to going to cinema at weekends. For him, watching films can help him escape from the real world, which is always busy and noisy. Understandably, comedies are his favorite movie types, which worth watching again and again.

Another reason that movies which cannot instruct people a lot are still worthwhile is that people want to spend time watching movies together. Due to the low prices of movies, going to cinema is increasingly popular for people who are inclined to hang out together. Friends, families and lovers nowadays like to watch movies to develop their relationship. In this condition, people do care more about whether they can laugh or cry together than whether they can obtain knowledge. Therefore, tear-jerker can be more worthy of watching than boring documentaries.  I myself is a typical example. When I need to watch movies with friends, I will pick hot action movies for us, because those movies can easily hold our breath and then feel relaxed together.

To conclude, whether movies are worthy of watching depends on how they satisfy our purposes of watching movies, instead of whether the movies are of educational value.

The reading states that through less work hours and more staff, the company can still win profits with the more efficiency of employees. However, the lecturer believes new staff will cost the company more money than the reading expects. Since the amount of money for medication and training is the same between an employee who works four days and one who works five day, the company pays more for the introduction of new workers. Also, more office space and computers for new ones require some money.

Additionally, the employment of the country will not rise as supposed in the reading. The speaker suggests another solution to the shortened workweek problem. Since more employees will cost more money, the company may require staff to finish the same amount of work they used to work for five days. This is due to the fact that with more rest, the corporation expects staff to work more efficiently. Sometimes, employees will even be forced to work overtime. Surely, this situation leads to more unpleasant work experience.

Moreover, employees who choose to work for four days may have a hard time in work because of their lack of stability. They may easily lose their jobs during the depression. When it comes to the promotion, it is more likely for them to be passed through because they cannot run the company and supervise the inferior constantly. This point is against what the reading says.

While newspapers provide paper version information news, televisions offer vivid sounds and authentic scenes about the latest news. Those two methods of media provide different kinds of information people want to learn. Therefore, people who want to gain the whole picture of the news may need them both.

Newspapers with a large scale of words usually explain a variety of aspects of events. They can illustrate the similar events happened in the history when some big news come; they will keep an eye on the heated events, showing how things develop; they are also able to fully demonstrate the consequences of certain incident. Indeed, with increasingly large space for newspapers to write, they can easily tell people the procedure of any events completely. For instance, I can know the exact details about the earthquake in China last year through reading newspapers daily.

On the other hand, television programs contain some precious visual and auditory information that people need to grasp. Sometimes words are blank in telling exciting stories. Only with TV's influential pictures and moving sounds can people realize what is truly going on in the world. Disasters cannot be described by words, the pain of losing beloved ones cannot be felt between lines, and the incredibility of some events still cannot be understood by readers. Again, during the period of earthquake rescuing, many people did not understand how serious the situations are before they watch news on television.  

Moreover, in order to obtain a thorough view of the news, newspapers and televisions are both necessary to some extent.  Without television, there will be little impact of news; without newspapers, no detailed information can be gained. With newspapers supplying detailed procedures and information, television program offering images and voices from which events happen, we can fully comprehend how those incidents happen, how they develop and in which way they end up. Take myself for example. I always choose to read news first, and then watch them on television. In that way, I can get complete knowledge of the news.

In conclusion, the assistance of newspapers and televisions provide us enough information to fully understand what happen every day.

Although teaching students some political or social opinions will help them form values of the world, it is advisable for teachers not to do that because the influence teachers have and the hampered independently thinking ability.

There is no denying that younger students will benefit a lot if teachers can express their political and social opinions properly. Due to lack of experience and knowledge, children tend to believe what they see and hear more easily than others. Nowadays, with the explosion of information and the increasingly exposure to massive media, it is more likely for kids to take various news and experience from televisions, newspapers and Internet, no matter they are mentally healthy or not. Not surprisingly, children will learn the negative sides of society, sometimes leading to anti-society behaviors. In such situation, what teachers say is usually much wiser and more appropriate than what the media say to adults. Therefore, allowing teachers to talk about politics and society is one strategy to keep children away from ugly aspects of society.

However, chances are some teachers have a negative impact on children. As is known to all, teachers may be influential for their speeches and behaviors, especially those who instruct well. Also, there exist teachers who behavior inappropriately, let alone how they hold their opinions about the world. If they get the opportunity to convey any negative information to children, the twisted and dark side of the heart in children will be more or less invoked. What a disaster it could be considering how many students one teacher can teach in one year and what percentage he or she can affect them! Take my friends for example. He says that he was frightened by a teacher's words in his childhood and still had had nightmares about what the teacher described before he went to university.

More importantly, the introduction of political or social views to elder students will hamper their own exploration of the real world, resulting in the decrease of the ability of thinking. With different backgrounds, experience and education, one can only understand the world in hi own way. If someone abruptly intervene in this procedure, or even accelerate it, the result will not be favorable. More specifically, if one shapes his standpoint under the influence of his teacher; he will finally throw doubt on this view, spending more time rebuilding the values.

To conclude, while teachers can convey some positive information to students to change their opinions about society and politics, they can also twist the values of students. Therefore, teachers had better do not talk about politics and society.
