TOPIC: ISSUE70 - "In any profession-business,politics, education, government-those in power should step down after fiveyears. The surest path to success for any enterprise is revitalization throughnew leadership."
New leader could bring new ideas and offer expertise, yetit does not mean he will bring the enterprise with revitalization. That is whysome companies pursue after another new CEO to replace current one who has justworked for a shortly time years. An effective leader has reasons to maintain hisposition and make contributions to the enterprise while strict supervision andelection system are also needed.
To begin with, an excellent leader who are smart, insightful and passionate, plays a vital role and more crucial than technology, organization and regulation in the path to success for any enterprise. Personaland interpersonal competence makes him to organize an efficient team with hiseffective communication skills and management ability. Leaders, with theirdesire enterprise, could bring in innovation and energy and affect others. Forexample, when Apple Inc. suffered profits and market decrease, it was SteveJobs who returned back to the company with his unique and advanced philosophy ofproducts, saved it and made it one of the most successful companies in theworld during the past 10 years. So, why can not a great leader to stay in hisposition and why should he step down after five years? If Jobs left Apple afterhis second participation 5 years later again, how can we imagine the great successApple achieves today?
However, there are several reasons why we have to replaceleaders or make an election again. First, a long stay in the saddle may leadthe leader to corruption or abuse of power. This situation is especially commonto the political area. Take Bill Clinton as example, who had provided theAmerican people a period of booming development and was one of the most popularpresidents in history, was also connected with scandals and negative events.Leaders may lose their possessiveness and sound judgment because of complexcondition and desires for power. Another reason often refers to the healthcondition of leaders. They tend to be less healthy and exhaust of mind undercomplicated issues and high pressures for many years. Franklin D. Roosevelt, whoassumed the presidency at depth of Great Depression and helped the Americanpeople regain the faith, died during his forth term. From this point of view, leaders need to stop and have a rest.
Leaders, who do well during his term, would benefit theenterprise if he stays in the position. What we need is the tight supervisionand election system. An outstanding leader often has rich expertise andextensive experience in his domain. In these fields, a quick rotation may harmthe enterprise. long terms are necessary for leaders to gain experience andmake contributions. For example, a lasting prosperity and stability are vitalin a financial system, the leader in an important role needs a long period oftraining and superior perspective. That is why Greenspan, the chairman ofFederal Reserve Board of US, stays in the position for more than 18 years. Hemade a big contribution for the development and stability of American economywith his sensitiveness of economy and rigid analytical ability.
In sum, it is too absolute to restrict the period of termfor leaders. We could provide excellent ones with more time and stage toprosper the enterprise if a well-sound supervision and election system arefounded.
1. 一个好的leader很重要
2. 好的为啥不能一直做呢,有这么几个理由 [感觉不是很充分]
3. 通过加强监督和建立选举制度,让一些好的leader一直干下去,尤其一些需要经验的领域。 |
