Leaders, of the people, by the people, for the people, are expected to promote our lives forward. Over that course, they must seek a balance between being effective to accomplish their obligation and high morality in some cases when they can maintain both.
As the servant of civilian, a leader is held the responsibility to raise, maintain and extend the wealth, prosperity and civilization of its nation, region or district. Such responsibility falls to him the moment he takes office. In his career as a leader, what he should do is to accomplish his commitment in election, whether about increasing government revenue or lifting public living conditions or strengthening national construction. An effective leader will be able to direct the public in this load and laying foundation for the realization of our common dream to live better lives.
High ethical and moral standards can gain a leader substantial favor in the public. After all, an effective leader should first be a good person. Consider, for example, two candidates in an election campaign. One is famous for some immorality deeds: dishonest, cheating and selfish; the other is just the opposite, always good. Who would you elect for the leader of you region, with a dream to live better life? Of course the latter. What we emphasize in the quality of a politician is his moral level. How can we expect a man, if he cannot control himself well, to control the region as well as nation? There are so many politicians, working hard for there own benefits, regardless the loss and misery of the average people. Though they may appear somewhat as a fine man in ethical, he deserves not the trust of people.
There is other cases as well, morality seems controversy to the obligation of an effective leader. Such as when faced the choice between lying and disclosing the secret of a nation. Any sensible leaders won't risk the security of the nation to maintain his reputation. And in a just war, what governors desire is to cheat its enemy and win the time or opportunity for a decisive battle. In our daily life, there are also some cases: we don't appreciate the honesty of leader, such as in chasing suspects in a region. The best strategy may be to confuse in order to attest them eventually at little cost. If so, the governors can feel free to withhold some important information form the public.
We expect our leaders to maintain high moral standards. Meanwhile, we expect them to be effective to deal with the political affairs. When such expectations contradict with each other, the leader should strike a balance so as to impel the society forward in a better waya. |
