12.3 Do you agree with the following statement? Children should only study or play and don’t have to do household chores.

In recent years, when I walk on the street, I always find some lovely but fat children eating ice creams, and crying or smiling happily. I bless them, but sometimes I think when they confront some big problems at the first time in their life, how will they deal with them? Nowadays, the quality of life has improved, and we have not too much burden to earn a living, so parents always let their children free from household chores. But if children are free from the burden of household, they will not acquire one important character which should be taught in childhood; that is responsibility.

It’s true that study is very important as a child, but we should redefine what study is. Just go to school to read books? Or taught them to learn about this world and human life? In my opinion, life is more rich and complicated than books, and as a child there are some qualities-like imagination, creativity, curiosity, and responsibility-should be developed if he/she want to lead a healthy and high-quality life in the future. Doing household chores is a good way to learn these characters. When children can share some burden of living, they will understand the difficulty of life, and learn how to confront it; they will also develop the curiosity to this world when they learn something that can not be learned from school.

Moreover, it is very helpful to parents when they do household chores with children. Children have fresh eyes, when they look at this world, the world will be refreshed by these fresh eyes. As adults, when we do our daily work, every thing just like so boring, so we need a new view to rediscover this world. Children can be our teacher, and teach us something that we have lost.

My aunt tells me when she find some difficulty in life, she will consult with her little daughter. One day she went to buy some vegetables with her daughter, and there was one new kind of fruit in the market. My aunt just can not recognize which one was good, so she told her daughter to choose some. When they came home, aunt find most of these fruit that her daughter brought were bad. However her daughter said happily: ”No mama, they are beautiful!” My aunt laughed and realized the difference between she and her child: she bought fruits just for eat, but her daughter learned to appreciate the beauty of these fruits.

Do you agree with the following statement? It was easier to achieve success in the past than it is today.

According to my own experience, it is true that nowadays we have more difficulties to achieve success than in the past time. But the first thing I concern about is what success is.

To most people, success is getting a lot of money, living in a big house, or having a good career. There is no wrong when you regard someone who has these things as a successor, because today’s life is so competitive, and it is truly difficult if you want to have a higher position or earn more money in this society. After all, becoming more richer is a major purpose of life.

But my definition of success is not just getting a good career. As a human being, the most crucial task in his life is, in my opinion, to fulfill his own life and get happiness. If he is a good person and content with his low position in society, he is also a successor to himself. But nowadays, this definition of success is also difficult to achieve. We have more desire and less spiritual life; we know much but feel a little; we can take plain to other countries but we have problems to get along with our neighborhood.

When I was 18, I realized the major I wanted to learn is literature, and I decided to devote my life to do research of literature. But as soon as I did my learning to get my own success, I found it was so hard. One hundred years ago, literature had a good position in this world, writer was respected by people, and citizens loved reading novels and poems, but nowadays everything has changed: nobody care about literature, maybe just because literature can’t help them get money. I had not get a good education of literature in my childhood, and when I grew up most friends did not care about spiritual life. So if I persist in my dream I must do much more than people in past time.  

So success is difficult to achieve whatever how you define it. But it is not a bad thing when we get failure; maybe it will be a right time to retrospect our own life, and redefine what success is. I think if we can care more about others than just focus our deliberation on our own success, this world will be better and better, and success will also be a easy thing to achieve.
