In the argument, the editor appeals the residents in the Clearview to voting for Ann Green during the mayoral selection, because Green is more qualified to be the mayoral and more likely to solve the environmental problem after selection succeed. To substantiate the viewpoint, several evidence is provided such as the background of the oppose candidate, Frank Braun, who is the member of the town council and the actual fact of local environment.Although, at the first glance, such reasoning seems certain, there are still several obvious logical fallacies weakening the argument.

To begin with, the argument unconvincingly assumes that the doubled number of factories is attributed to the authority’s mistaken management and consequently adversely affects the environment. However, scanty evidence about the newly founded factories is provided so that we are not able to put the blame on the town council.  It is entirely possible that the new factories have no harm to the environment; even if they are responsible for the pollution, they might have been dated from the previous council, not the contemporary one; a series of severe measures have been taken by the council in order to prevent constructing the new factories, unfortunately, without an immediate effect.

Even assuming such correlation truly existing between the town council and the new factories, we are not informed that the recent construction of factories, rather than other reasons, is the chief cause to the 25 percent more patients with respiratory illnesses.  Perhaps, residents of Clearview widely smoke cigarette or the city is coincidently contaminated by the pollution produced by the nearby city.
So the conclusion is unacceptable unless offering the accurate hospital record showing the patients is increasing since the new factories once built.

Granted that the worsening environment is due to the council’s decision, it is unfair to firmly believe that Frank Braun has little contribute to the environment protection. We require more detail about what role Braun playing in the council concerning the environmental problem, and how profoundly he influences the adverse decision.Since lacking the proof to negate his work, Braun might have done tireless work to promote the council abandoning their ignorance on the environment.

As the argument mentioned, the background of Ann Green indicate his absolute interest in th environmental protection. However, the ambition and enthusiasm are not the only necessaries for a mayor. Scanty evidence support that Green is qualified to deal with the various challenge and credibly lead the whole town.
So the appeal to voting for him without a thorough consideration appears a little hasty.

Apparently, the editorial is unconvincing as it stands. To reinforce the argument, the editor needs to present more substantiation to ensure that Ann Green gets enough ability to governing the town and handling the environment problem. =========================================================================================================================
