To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities.


Thousands years ago, when our ancestors decided to settle down ,building a city ; they were not aware that a spark of civilization had been lighten. Nowadays, cities are not only the home we live in , but also and more significantly , functioning as an incubation of our culture. Consequently, the best way to understand the most important characteristics of a society is to study its cities, especially, major cities.
  It is obvious that there are always one or several cities representing the mainstream characteristics of their country or society. What's more , this major cities has been the label of their society, for example,Paris show the romance of france to the world; rio de janeiro define the passion and enthusiasm of brazil ; jerusalem  is regarded as holy city by believer , representing the power of religion. When someone mention about usa , the first tings appear in people's brain sea is liberty statute in newyork  city, white house in dc, hollywood in l.a . It is can't be denied that major cities are the symbol of society.
  On the other hand,people's faith is various from one generation to another generation, however , the values and characteristics the city hold never vanish in the rapidly changing world , which the genuine truth society ought to persist. Taking philadelphia as an example,numbers of old , historical and meaningful building in the ex-capital of usa still telling people the battle american ancestor took ,fighting for freedom, and the faith of this country--liberty , equality,independence.
Admittedly , with the pace of internationalization and culture fusion , how to keep the independence of each unique culture , a huge challenge , has been disintered from the surface.shanghai, as the biggest metropolis in china ,  accelerate its speed on the avenue leading to concrete forest due to the endless demolition of old-fashion building and lack of protection of cultural relics .
   One said , the world can keep forward because he focus on the right things. Cities,particularly, major cities,are the  cruiser ,carrying humans , the long inherited convention and value of society, steering in the sea of history.
