The statementclaims that in an field those in power should step down after 5 years, and Itotally agree with it. Just by consulting historic events, one could easilydraw a conclusion that power should never be held by a certain person for toolong a time.
We all know thatstaying in power may hurt one's keenness for the current world. For instance,Gaddafi, the former leader of Libya, was forced to give up all his power recently. He got the power of the countryin his early age - he was only 27 when he compelled the king and become a truehero of Libya. At the beginning, he gained lot of support by building a complete new Lybia:free apartments, free education and low-cost medical system. But his supportersmust be surprised when they see their hero gradually became a dictator at somelevel, and had kept his political power for over 40 years. The reason whyGaddafi finally lost his power is he stayed in power too long so he somehowrefused to admit the world has changed, so does his people's needs. He lost hissensitivity of democracy and freedom and became obsessed with gaining morepower, and finally turned to be a incompetent leader.
Staying in powertoo long also will be an obstacle to other talented and aspired people. Asociety always needs fresh blood, because that's how it keeps turningperfectly. The same is true with business, politics, education and government.Even the small bookshop in my neighborhood change its manager regularly, allits staffs seems cheerful and hardworking since they know they always havechance to do better in his/her career.
Some people mayargue that it is acceptable for a leader to refuse to step down if he/she doesa good job. But look what Marc Jobs did! People will always remeber a cherishedleader, but they always have the right to know what would happen if the leaderis someone else, too.
A new president ofa school may bring a better system of teaching; a new CEO of a company maychange the imperfect rules; a new mayor of a city may bring some salutary policies- Who knows? So I absolutely support to give people choice instead of passiveaccepting their leader. That's why I think those in power should step down in acertain time- 5 years, for example.
