15.3.26 comprehension question note!
36套 ex9-5
Throughout human history there have been many stringent taboos concerning watching other people eat or eating in the presence of others. There have been attempts to explain these taboos in terms of inappropriate social relationships either between those who are involved and those who are not simultaneously involved in the satisfaction of a bodily need, or between those already satiated and those who appear to be shamelessly gorging. Undoubtedly such elements exist in the taboos, but there is an additional element with a much more fundamental importance. In prehistoric times, when food was so precious and the on-lookers so hungry, not to offer half of the little food one had was unthinkable, since every glance was a plea for life. Further, during those times, people existed in nuclear or extended family groups, and the sharing of food was quite literally supporting one’s family or, by extension, preserving one’s self.
23. If the argument in the passage is valid, taboos against eating in the presence of others who are not also eating would be LEAST likely in a society that
(A) had always had a plentiful supply of food
(B) emphasized the need to share worldly goods
(C) had a nomadic rather than an agricultural way of life
(D) emphasized the value of privacy
(E) discouraged overindulgence
改成3选不定项时,B是否要选上个人觉得有点逻辑上的难处,从排除法来看,B和C相比肯定是C大错特错
B的问题在于worldly goods和原文中的食物并没有联系,个人认为3选不定时严格讲不应该选
大家觉得呢?
下面是昨天的阅读笔记,有一个同样的问题
Whether the languages of the ancient American peoples were used for expressingabstract universal concepts can be clearly answered in the case of Nahuatl. Nahuatl, like Greek and German, is a language that allows the formation of extensive com-pounds. By the combination of radicals or semantic elements, single compound wordscan express complex conceptual relations, often of an abstract universal character. The tlamatinime(those who know) were able to use this rich stock of abstract termsto express the nuances of their thought. They also availed themselves of other forms ofexpression with metaphorical meaning, some probably original, some derived fromToltec coinages. Of these forms, the most characteristic in Nahuatl is the juxtapositionof two words that, because they are synonyms, associated terms, or even contraries, complement each other to evoke one single idea. Used metaphorically, the juxtaposedterms connote specific or essential traits of the being they refer to, introducing a modeof poetry as an almost habitual form of expression.
1.Which of the following can be inferred from the passage regarding present-dayresearch relating to Nahuatl?
ASome record or evidence of the thought of the tlamatinimeis available.
BFor at least some Nahuatl expressions, researchers are able to trace theirderivation from another ancient American language.
不要纠结Toltec是否是American Language,既然derive from a language能对上,就选
CResearchers believe that in Nahuatl, abstract universal concepts arealways expressed metaphorically.
不过和上面一题比起来,这个american language的划分至少没有硬性概念错误。
所以真正考试时遇到这类的题目要怎么办呢?
2.Select the sentence in the passage in which the author introduces a specificNahuatl mode of expression that is not identified as being shared with certainEuropean languages.
3.In the context in which it appears, “coinages” (line 9) most nearly means
Aadaptations
Bcreations
Cidiosyncrasies
Dpronunciations
Ecurrencies
这道题很很值得注意,coinage大多数知道的意思是currencies,这里却取得是偏意,是根据derive from得出的creation的意思 |
