The nomainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits are becoming more and more popular. We cannot deny the supplement they bring to our mainstream as well as people's needs, admittedly. However, what should be taken into account is that such nonmainstream mentioned above may, under some circumstances, do harm to the rational thought of persons and even change their life unreasonably.

I am inclined that astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits do have an important effect on people's life. They come to one when he was in a bad mood due to a trouble, providing entertainment for him. One could use the astrology to see what advantages are given into his stellar, which may encourage him to realize he has oportunity to success with these unique characteristics that makes him run away from the bad mood. In addition, individuals are able to use psychic to offer themseleves the courage to adventure and explore the fields, which they have not enough confidence in. Psychic means that one can manage to do something with their mental intention, which provides people an easy way to start and continue their project just with their own intention. Our mainstream science cannot comfit us by such a thing, due to success is coming from hard work and to some extent the gift, people may be depressed by it.

Nevertheless, I concede that sometimes the nonmainstream areas of inquiry do provide us the fresh feeling, which mainstream science cannot, yet the harm they bring us at the same time should not be disregarded. These nonmainstream ones are not science at all. Take astrology as the case, which is a conclusion for every stellars in the space observed by a host of people, contains no science in it compared with how the sun or moon runs in the univers is studied by amount of scientists. Fortune-telling, suffering the similar problem, is not based on science, like the scientific study or machines, to tell individuals how their life will be going on. All about the fortune-telling may merely derive from persons' assumptions for a variety of different people with different ages, blood types, birth dates and so forth, without any pratical evidence to prove they are right. The uncertain factors in these nonmainstream areas of inquiry will probably affect people being critic about the true science.

Furthemore, these uncertain factors will also assert an unpromising influence on individuals who believe them. When one intends to use the astrology to see what would be like if he does something, the astrology may show an unpleasent result that he will fail after all, owing to the astrology is impossible to provide promising results to people. Therefore the one may be depressed by it and never have courage to do this thing, though he is able to make it on his own. Morever, someone who has faith in the paranormal pursuits may be injured in the process, resulting from the theory of paranormal pursuits would let the individual be careless about the real nature, which contains many dangers. With deep blief of these theories, it is entirely possible that individuals are living with them as the leading sign, which makes people lost their true life that should contain their willing to pursue the dreaming goals.

To sum up, the mainstream science is primarily the one we should follow in our society to improve our life, not the nonmainstream ones. Having known the fresh feelings and unique things that nonmainstream inquiries can give us, we should also realize the harmful things they bring to us and prevent them from our life.
