Do you agree with the following statement? Children should play sports only for fun, and should not attend competitions and contests.

In my opinion, children should attend sport competitions and contests because sport is far beyond fun. Only through competition or contest, can children realize the meaning in sports and this also provides precious experience physically and mentally.

First of all, sports can keep fit is a household word. Physical exercise will strengthen our body which is the best way to be healthy. But only continuous exercise works. All parents would like to see their children growing up healthily. Health is absolutely more important than fun if we come over to what sports would bring to our children. But keeping exercise everyday is impossible to be funny because perseverance plays an important role, especially for children who are lack of self-control on focusing on one thing.

Besides, only through comparison can we know the outcome of our exercise. Attending competition and contests is a good way for children to reevaluate themselves and better understand their strengths and skills. Through communication with their competitors, a child would know many other children who involve in the same sport with him or her. This provides perfect opportunity for them to exchange ideas and experiences as it will benefit a lot to their self-improvement. Furthermore, they will find this method is also useful in other aspects out of sport, like their study and work and even their life.

What is also worthy of noticing is that most of the time sport needs teamwork in competition. Cooperation outweighs personal skill. In World Cup 2010, German beat down Argentina without any star players. How to make the team function well is important as a member or a leader. As children grow up, they will participate in many kinds of team for study or work. They might be a member or a leader. How perform well? Self-experience in sports will lead them to the answer. Meanwhile, it might be funny. But teamwork will be the thing impresses us the most.

To sum up, sport is not only for fun but also keeps children healthy, especially in a competition or contest which will give children insight to themselves and teamwork. Children will benefit from competition for personal development physically and mentally. So they should be encouraged to take part in contest rather than playing sport for fun.

In the lecture, the professor refuses to support the statement in the reading passage. She believes that the benefit from private collectors outweighs the disadvantages and she discusses the points made in the passage one by one.

First of all, the professor thinks those fossils will be presented much more to the public rather than declined exposure. When fossils purchasing in the market starts, anybody can by them like schools and libraries. So people will have more chance to see fossils in this way.

Besides, all fossils must be test and identified by scientists so that people can know the value and put them into the fossil market. Therefore, scientists won’t miss out any precious fossils. On the contrary, there will be more fossils pass through their hands.

Last point about the damage made by untrained collectors on fossils is also less significant than the amount if the discovery by those collectors. With the help of them, much more fossils will be found as well as the clues for fossils location because more fossils are always surrounded. As a result, more fossils and data will help scientists get more information in fossil research.

The passage introduced a practice to help forest recover from disasters called salvage logging, which would be beneficial to both the damaged forest and the economy. However, the professor in the lecture holds opposite opinion that salvage logging will results in serious damage in the long run. And she refused three points demonstrated in the passage one by one.

First, the professor claims that dead trees won’t choke forests from growing new trees but they will contribute to the new generation. After decomposing, those dead trees will fertilize the soil in the forest, which will become suitable for new trees to grow. If people remove dead trees, the soil will lack nutrition. New trees thus won’t grow as well as before.

Second, dead tree is not the habitat only for beetles but also for other insects and birds. And beetles have lived with trees in a symbiosis way for hundreds of years, which appeared to be fairly harmony. Habitats for many animals will disappear as soon as people remove the tree. This will definitely be dangerous for the forest, not the beetles.

Third, those dead trees seem to be able to provide much wood for industries but before they applied to use, they need to be recover by some vehicles that is expensive to use and maintain. Besides, jobs of remove the tree are always provided to some experienced and trained settlers so that this may not become a source for work towards local residents.

One of the best ways for parents to help their teenage children prepare for adult life is to encourage them to take the part time job.

Nowadays, overprotection to children is common among parents since their babies were born. When babies grow up, parents finally realize that someday children must leave schools and have their own lives facing all problems alone. This time parents start to worry about how to get their children fully prepared to an adult. Part time job is an encouraged way to achieve this, which more and more parents agree recently. In fact, it is indeed one of the best way as far as I concerned and my personal reasons are presented as follows.

First, part-time job is a perfect opportunity to experience both the world outside school and the life of an adult. Self-experience is always the best teacher. Like a boy who won’t play with fire only after he got hurt by the fire, no matter how many times teachers told us school would be the most ideal place in your life and how much complains about the hardship of the life reminded by your parents, you would know what all those means only after you experienced it. If it is late to realize those when you’ve already been an adult, then taking a part-time job to feel and to predict your future life is pretty an intelligent choice for preparation.
Second, as a student, a child should have spent all their time and energy on study. Taking a part time job means children must remove some time for works. How to balance both of them will be an additional task that will teach students a lot such as self-control, time management, and so on. After graduation from school, there would only be one thing that has to be considered: job. In the contract, this won’t be hard for a person who managed both study and part-time job when he or she was a student. At least, he or she will definitely be confidence about this adult life.

Third, practical knowledge from part time job will contribute to personal competitiveness in job hunting. Only if you take part in actual project in a real company, can you get access to how your knowledge on the textbook applied in reality. That’s also a significant quality which employers are looking for.

To sum up, through part time job, children could experience their future adult life ahead, improve their personal skills and attain practical knowledge for their career. Taking part time job should be encouraged.

The reading passage proposes three ways to control the population of a foreign amphibian specie called cane toad, which was supposed to eat harmful insects and thus protect farms. In the lecture, the professor holds another reasonable opinion against those measures.

The first measure introduced in the passage is to limit the scope of cane toads’ activity by fence thus the spread of the toads will be controlled. But from the professor’s aspect, this won’t work because young toads and the eggs can be carried to the other side of the fence with water flowing in rivers and streams. So fence will never be a effective solution.

Second, the professor proposes that the appeal to untrained volunteers to capture those toads is not a wise choice, because it is hard to distinguish cane toad and native toads when they are young. Additionally, even though the cane toad is not noxious, some of the native frogs are dangerous. Therefore, this measure will endanger both the native frogs and those volunteers.

The last measure in the passage concerns on a disease-causing virus which only effects on the cane toad. The professor argues that this virus is probably transported to America, where the cane toad origins, in other ways like by collectors or researchers. The result will be fairly serious because cane toad is absolutely significant in the local eco-system which means the reduction population of cane toad there will stringently damage to the whole environment.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Has technology made children less creative than they were in the past.

When it comes to discussion about the impact that today’s technology brings towards our next generations, some people propose that children’s creativity might be influenced. I fundamentally agree that the creativity of children may adversely effected by technology, which brings people so much convenience that makes children be lazy to think about how things run around them and satisfy with the current situation. Children thus have no enthusiasm to create new things. However, this argument disregards the other aspect of what technology brings, which as I see is important for children’s creativity.

First, coincident with the development of technology today, it is possible to realize your ideas in different ways. Take car model for instance. With computer technology, an electronic car models could take variety tests like how strong a crash it is able to undertake in a simulative environment before the car manufactures, avoiding the luxury waste to make real car models. Sometimes, those new ways go beyond our expectation. Computer Graphic Design, CG in short, is a new design industry in recent years. Instead of brushes, pigments and canvas, all works are done with a simple electronic drawing board connected to the computer. This can mimic all kinds of brushes and paper. Not only can former style of works be painted, other unprecedented style and brushstrokes also can be created. With those tools, children therefore are luckily in a situation that provides plenty of advanced equipments for their innovation, which is much better than before.

The second aspect has to do with where the creativity stem from. Few would disagree that the origin is thoughts about the life or the things people interested in. And thoughts come from self-experience. That’s why the old owns deeper thoughts, because they experience more than youngsters. Nowadays, technology supplies internet for people to share all information globally and transportation implements which reduce instance worldwide. Children are no longer in a relatively close city but could get access to the world outside so that this generation will definitely have more thoughts, which would be basic for their innovation. At this point, technology contributes.

To sum up, even though technology may bring some adversely effects, the vantage that provided to children, which is helpful for their development of creative ability, outweighs the disadvantages.

Additionally, even though the cane toad is not noxious, some of the native frogs are dangerous(这个听力中说的是endanger, 有些青蛙要灭绝了,不是dangerous). Therefore, this measure will endanger both the native frogs and those volunteers.

The last measure in the passage concerns on a disease-causing virus which only effects on the cane toad. The professor argues that this virus is probably transported to America, where the cane toad origins, in other ways like by collectors or researchers. The result will be fairly serious because cane toad is absolutely significant in the local eco-system which means the reduction population of cane toad there will stringently(这个词儿用得好)
damage to the whole environment.

总的来说写的不错,字数也比较合适,用词值得我学习,我认为好的词儿都标出来了(绿色)
有一个不足:听力要加强,特别是有些单词读音近似,但意思差别很大,要注意区分喔~~

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? To make children do well at school, parents should limit the time children spend on watching tv and movies.

Nowadays coincident with the increasingly fierce competition, parents tend to be stricter on their children, which they believe will contribute to the children’s future and career. Some parents therefore limited the time that children spend on watching TV and movies in order to saving more time for study and good performance at school. Do TV and movies have inevitable connection with children’s study? Although I fundamentally agree that spending too much time on TV and movies leads to adverse effect on study, there is another question: will children do better if their time on TV and movies is controlled by parents? As I see, there are two arguments to refute this statement.

The first argument has to do with learning efficiency. How much time you spend is not the key to study, which doesn’t equals to the amount of the knowledge people learn. And especially, children should have time to play. Study is indeed all their life but shouldn’t occupy all their time, which is against their physically and mentally well development. Besides, today there are variety ways for time consuming like playing basketball, soccer and surfing on the internet. Measures only on TV and movies will be hardly work, in the contrast, they may begin to engage in other time-consuming activities. So time-restriction on TV and movies is not a good solution or even a solution and not necessary, either. The essence to well performance at study is improve the learning efficiency.

Besides, sometimes TV and movies are helpful. A break of all day long study to enjoy TV or movies for children interested in them would perfect to relax and pressure-release. And proper rest is good for the function of brain, which benefits for later working. Moreover, some educational TV and movies teach children in a vivid way. They are excellent carriers themselves for knowledge spreading.

As a whole, time-restriction on watching TV and movies is not a good solution and sometimes TV and movies are helpful for children’s study. I don’t agree with the statement that parents should limit the time children spend on TV and movies to make them do well at schools.
