The purpose of television should be all educative, not entertain?
Now that television is so prevalent all over the world that almost each family own one or more televisions, it plays an increasingly significant role in our daily life. Somebody might ask that what the purpose of television is. No matter what it is, I think, it is never all for education and totally excludes entertainment.
The first reason I hold that opinion is that television couldn't be all educative on the perspective of its design. All of what television provides us with are huge numbers of pictures and images with rapid speed. That speed is so quick that audiences couldn't do anything, such as cogitating or recalling the things showed by eye-catching pictures through television, but be unconsciously forced to watch another new image. Obviously, this design definitely is suitable for education. Because we all know that effective education need not only good teachers and communications but always reflection, which is television's one of the biggest disadvantages. However, this design fits for entertainment. Because it doesn't need any sophisticated thinking. Audiences can just follow its speed and purely accept and enjoy the pleasure and ecstasy it brings. As a result, the purpose of television should not be all educative.
Besides the unique design of it, television shouldn't be educative on the aspect of practical life. Pictures full of things relevant to education could easily bore people, especially people living nowadays walking in an unprecedentedly fast pace, to tears. Let's imagine a situation as followed. A person, tired and hungry, after working for continuously nine hours in her/his office, finally arrives at home. She/He casts her/himself into sofa heavily, and wants to have some relax. So s/he turns on the television, which only turns out educative things, for example, a serious lecture given by a famous professor from Harvard University. What is her/his mood then? If I was in her/his shoes, I would curse at television. Similarly, a student also couldn't tolerate all education occupying television, especially when s/he has received it the whole day. Therefore, we can conclude that if the purpose of television is all educative, it may increase people's burden and do no good to relax.
Consequently, television shouldn't be filled with education. I maintain the opinion that the purpose of television should be offering and introducing a colorful world to its audiences. Television can act as a useful and convenient tool to connect people from different places. So what TV exhibits could include many factors, like politics, tourism, entertainment, sports, and of course, education.
