In contemporary society, the rapid development of transport and the dramatic increase of our incomes accelerate the blossom of tourism. Accordingly, an increasing number of people go abroad to enjoy their leisure time in a different culture.

Some individuals claim that visitors to other countries should do in Rome as the Romans do, which I agree to a large extent. People visit foreign countries not only to see the different landscapes and beautiful scenery, but to experience the local customs and behaviour as well, by following which the travelling will become more interesting. Moreover, it is much easier and more convenient for the tourists to stay in another country if they follow the local customs. That is to say, there will be less misunderstandings if visitors do as the local people do, and therefore the travelling would be more enjoyable.

In contrast, some people argue that the host country should open their arms to welcome cultural differences, after all, different peoples have different customs and it is respect that counts in cross-cultural communications. It is not that easy to ask all the visitors to follow the local customs, however, the host countries can be open-minded and welcome different cultures with hospitality and tolerance, by which the host countries will enjoy a better popularity and their tourism will speed on an expressway and have an optimistic prospect of profit.

Personally, cultural differences should become attractive factors instead of obstacles in tourism. By this I mean, different customs and behaviour are components of the world and both the visitors and host countries hold the responsibility of protecting cultural diversity and make their contributions to it.
