124. Do you agree or disagree with thefollowing statement? It is more important for students to study history andliterature than it is for them to study science and mathematics. Use specificreasons and examples to support your opinion.



The argument about which subjects, historyand literature or science and mathematics, are more important has aroused quita heat debate among people. From where I am standing, I think both fields areequally important and my reason states as following.



First, let's talk about history andliterature. As human society developed, history and literature documented everyaspects of human's life and witnessed the trail of the promoting of ourcivilization. History is the link of us and ancient people. By study history,we can see the right and wrong made by the people in the old days and by doingthat, we will have better chance to avoid the mistakes and carry out therightness. Two world wars are the great tragedies in human civilization, andonly by passing what we have done and learned in these mad acts to our son andgrandsons, they can aware that war should not be happened again. Performed asthe similar function as history, literature guides us to explore the human'smental world and tell us how people think about life, nature, religion and allthe things around us every day. History and literature reflect the aspect ofart of us, so to learn these subjects is to learn about human. We cannotadvance not if we know who we really are.



If to learn history and literature is tolearn ourselves, then to learn science and mathematics is to learn the world.Why it will rain and why flame will burn? It is because everything in thenature has regular patterns, and science is the subjectto discover these patterns. Back to the Dark Age when people use the power ofgod to explain many uncommon situations, people are so powerless and lived inthe fear of provoking the sacred god. But science liberates people, and givesthem the tools to change the world for better place for human to survive.Mathematics is the jewelry of the crown of science. They work altogether to empowerpeople to explore the unknown world and let the shine of humanity evenbrighter.



In sum, no matter history and literature orscience or mathematics, they all contribute to human civilization and worthylearning.
