The lecturer does not agree that workingfour days a week is beneficial to employees, companies or the economy. Heprovides three points to support his idea.

First of all, working four days a week makesthe company hire new staff, which will lead to more cost. Because the companyneeds to pay for the training, the medical health care, the office facilitiesfor the new workers which amount to a great amount of money. This directlycontradicts the idea in the passage that working four days a week will benefitthe company economy.

Also, the speaker holds the idea that thischange will not offer more jobs opportunities or decrease the unemploymentrate. To increase their profits, companies may demand the workers to workovertime and raise their expectations to each individual worker, so that theworkload of the employers will not decrease or even increase, since they needto finish the five-day work in four days.

At last, the speaker oppose the idea thatworking four days a week will provide more free time for employees and thusenjoy a better life time. He thinks the work time shift will lower the chancefor the individuals to get promotion or advancement. Since companies willprefer those working five days to do the management or supervision. What’sworse, working four days a week may even causes an employee losing his/her jobwhen there is an economy slowdown.

Do you agree or disagree with the statement "At universities and colleges, sports and social activities are just as imporant as classes and libraries and should receieve equal financial report"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which will receive more financial support from the board of the university, the social activities or classes and libraries? In my opinion, it is determined by the aim and main features of a university.

It is widely believed that universities and colleges are the places where students pursue a variety of knowledge through lectures, seminars, and interactions with professors and classmates. Most students are very concerned about the teaching quality and research environment when they choose the university that they will attend, and they often refer to the rankings by Times or U.S. News. Students want to gain knowledge by taking classes, hone their skills through experiments, deepen their knowledge and widen their visions though readings in library. There is no doubt that universities with higher rankings in the world all possess well-constructed teaching facility, excellent teaching staff and inclusive research environment. These famous universities attract outstanding researchers and scientists as well as top students worldwide. It is obvious that great financial support is needed for classes and libraries for a university to achieve success.

Sports and social activities is one of the most enjoyable parts of life. Students will meet new friends and learn new things through parties, sports matches, camping, etc. which make their life colorful and interesting.  However, compared with the teaching facilities and scientific researches, these extra curriculum activities need less money. For example, the maintenance of the play ground is usually less expensive than the library, since more books and internet resources need to be purchased every year. Moreover, for most students and teachers, activities only take a small part of their leisure time, and abundant activities is usually not the main reason why students choose the university, nor the main feature of a university.
In conclusion, I think more financial support should be provided to enhance the teaching facilities than other activities for a university.

The lecturer disagrees with the idea of the passage and holds the view that team work is not the best way to approach projects. Three reasons are presented to support his idea.

First of all, there are some free riders in the group. Though they contribute little to the group, they will get no punishment, since the recognition of a group is as a whole. Moreover, for the same reason, those people who work well and provide valuable insights to the project will have no chance to "shine". These circumstances directly contradict from what the passage indicates.

Second, it is not efficient to take a task by a group. Since lots of time is wasted on meetings to reach consensus, the group cannot work quickly in response to the assigned task. This is also different from the passage. The passage says the group members can have more resources than an individual so that they can work more quickly.

Finally, the influential people of a group can use their strong impacts to affect decision making. They may ask the group to drop some creative ideas that they themselves do not like, or persuade others to accept their ideas. However, if the projects turned out to be a big failure, the group as a whole would be to blame, instead of the one or two decision makers.

The passage and the lecture provide different views on the accuracy of the memoir written by the Chevalier de Seingalt. The passage doubts the accuracy, while the speaker of the lecture deems it a pretty accurate and reliable historical source. The speaker provides strong evidences to refute the arguments in the passage.

First of all, she believes that borrowing money from a merchant doesn't mean the Chevalier was poor which is contrary to the point of the passage. Instead, he was very rich and owned a large amount of assets. To get money, he needed to sell the assets first, since that may took several days when cash was available, he would borrow money from others.

Moreover, contrary to the idea of the passage, the speaker holds the view that the conversations between the writer Voltaire and the Chevalier recorded in the memoir is accurate. The Chevalier always took notes after he talked with Voltaire each night and he kept them for many years. It is confirmed by some witnesses that the Chevalier referred to the notes when writing the memoir.

Finally, the speaker thinks that the Chevalier escaped from the prison not by bribing the jailers, but by making a hole in the ceiling, since other prisoners with more powerful friends had no way to bribe the jailers and were still kept in the prison. She also mentioned that the government document showed that the ceiling was broken and needed to be repaired. Thus, the Chevalier escape from the hole of the ceiling recorded in the memoir is convincing.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It isoften not a good thing to move to a new city or a new country because of thelost of old friends?

Moving toa new city or a new country has different meanings to different people. Somedeem it an exciting adventure or a brand new start and they are looking forwardto it, while others may feel lost and lonely since they are away from theirclose friends and family. From my own perspective, it is a good idea to move toa new city or a country to experience a new way of life, especially for theyoung people.

Thefriendship is not built in a day, and being away from your friends does notnecessarily mean the loss of friendship. Though you and your friends are separatedby the great distance and cannot see each other very often, you can easily keepin touch with them through phone calls, emails, instant messages, etc. Goodfriends will still be there to support you when you meet obstacles and needtheir help. Moreover, you will soon have new friends and neighbors in adifferent city through participation in community activities or clubs.

Moving toa new city can provide you more opportunities and help you achieve your goals. For instance, many students go abroad for further study, and they can benefit froma better research environment, advanced teaching facilities and distinguishedprofessors. Moreover, since they are involved with people from diverse backgrounds, they can learn different cultures which make them prepared for the futurecareer in a multinational company.

Mostimportantly, this experience will make people more independent, mature andconfident. Being in a new and unfamiliar city, they need to face the challengesalone without immediate help from old friends and family. For example, I wasinvited to attend the summer school in Miami, Florida last year. Many friendsdid not believe that I could manage the trip by myself. I felt exciting, but also nervous and uncertain at first, because I did not know what wouldhappen, how to transfer at the airport, or whether I could easily arrive at thehotel, etc. To my surprise, airport staff members were very friendly and everythingwent well. This is a meaningful and memorable trip in that I have more confidencein myself when confronting new challenges.

整体来说,论证得不错,语言也挺好的。有些具体的建议已经写在文章里了,个人意见,有什么改的不对的再多多交流哈!

3.1.integrated TPO 09

The lecture and the passage discuss their views on using hydrogen as the replacement for the automobile's main source of power. The passage states three advantages to support the  replacement, while the speaker thinks though fossil fuel is finite and causing environmental pollution, the idea of using hydrogen as the main energy source of the passage is over optimistic and unrealistic.

First of all, the speaker points out that it is not easy to derive hydrogen as the source of energy from water, and only purified liquid hydrogen can be used for fuel-cell engines. Moreover, to produce and store the liquid hydrogen is not an easy task which requires special techniques like maintaining a very low temperature. This idea directly contradicts the view of the passage that the hydrogen energy is easily available.

Contrary to the passage that hydrogen is a clean energy with only water by-product, the speaker holds that hydrogen-based cells cannot solve the pollution problem. Because the hydrogen purification process requires fossil fuel which will emit carbon dioxide as the by-product, and thus harm the environment.

Finally, the speaker maintains that there is no cost saving in the fuel-cell engine, since the precious metal platinum is required in the engine which is expensive and no substitutions can be found.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The government should spend more money on education of very young children than the education of universities.

Education is of the utmost importance to a nation, since people not only learn basic read and write through education, they also need education to equip themselves with prerequisite working skills to make their own living. To decide which the government should spend more, on the education of very young children or the education of universities, we need to examine the different roles that the two educations play and their corresponding responsibilities.

Young children receive education mainly from kindergartens and elementary schools. From my own perspective, the primary goal of this education is to teach children the basic reading and writing skills, and form a good learning habit. Young children will also learn how to cooperate with others and express their ideas by participation in school activities. Through a variety of extra-curriculum classes like dancing, swimming, skating, etc., they will find what they are passionate about and the things they will pursue in future education. Obviously, this kind of education is essential and fundamental to people’s further development, and thus we have the nine-year compulsory education system in china to ensure that every child can benefit from the education at least for nine years no matter whether you are rich or poor, living in big cities or remote areas.

Different from the elementary education the children receive, the education of universities has more profound meanings to a nation’s development and prosperity so that it deserves more funds. It is common that universities closely cooperate with government research centers in different scientific field, and this cooperation is fruitful. Take the national biocomputation center of Stanford University for an example, the joint collaboration with NASA has obtained great research achievement and support the NASA mission for human exploration and development of space.

In addition, Compared to the teaching facilities of primary schools, higher education needs more money to create an advanced research environment, for example, libraries, laboratories, lecture halls, etc. One important goal of the university is to help students develop their own way of thinking, analyzing and eventually solving problems through classes and experiments. To help them achieve these abilities, universities need to hire distinguished experts and experienced teaching staff with great amount of money. Moreover, scholarships and financial aids are necessary for poor students which amount to another burden to universities.

In conclusion, education for the young is important for a nation, and the education of universities deserves more government support due to its significant role and responsibilities.

点基本上找对了,但是没有展开。建议在每一点上都把speaker的观点与passage的内容作对比展开。
