What makes a good roommate?
In many cases roommates are the people with whom you communicate oftener than other friends or teachers. Keeping healthy relationships between roommates is very crucial for one's growth in the college or university. Generally a good roommate should have a good habit, be considerate and be tolerant.
Students are usually influenced by people near them whose behaviors and habits can have an effect on their decisions that what they will do or not do. The influences of living with a roommate who has a good habit or a bad one can be totally different. For instance, you resist the temptation to watch a movie when you see a roommate reading attentively. However, you might do the same if a roommate is also watching a movie; You are often motivated to do exercise by a roommate who loves sports or you become unwilling to get up early every day just because your roommates wake up late.
Additionally, it is important for a roommate to be considerate. Suppose you have a sick some day, it is your roommate who send you to the hospital and make up notes which you have missed. Or when you have other troubles, a considerate roommate can alleviate your anxiety. Although living far from home, you feel warm and comfortable.
Finally, a good roommate should also be tolerant. Since we live close with each other, some inconveniences are unavoidable that originated from people's different habits and characters. A more tolerant roommate often ignore those unpleasant trivial things and preserve your friendship fresh and long-lasting. We need to compromise so as to make the mutual living atmosphere more friendly and harmonious.
In a word, I believe that having a considerate and tolerant roommate with a good habit is most enjoyable. It allows students to get along with each other in a healthy environment and concentrate on what matters most. |
