Topic:The study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. After studying the discipline, we see the same world as before, but with different eyes.
I strongly agree with the assertion that by studying an academic discipline we alter the way we perceive the world. And moreover, we attain, at the meantime, a more mature and profound view of the world around us, as well as its relationship with ourselves. Several examples that aptly illustrate this point of involve the fields of nature science, philosophy and social science.
One reason for my fundamental agreement with the speaker is that by studying particular discipline we can obviously learn more knowledge about the outside world we live and thus gain a much more positive and accurate perception of the world. First, let's take the Copernican theory as an example. Copernicus established the heliocentric theory and drastically cast down the Geocentric Theory which had been held for a long time as a granted truth. For his very advanced theory, people began to realize the reality that our earth is just a single rotational globe orbiting the sun in the endless universe. Another well known example is that people find out that many diseases are actually attributed to kinds of viruses by studying the bacteriological theory of Pasteur. From innumerable examples like these, we can see how our view angles are changed by the studies.
Another reason that I assent to the speaker's opinion involves human’s self-awareness. Rather, we are able to take a further cognizance of ourselves and the human nature by the study particularly in the field of physiology and history. For example, through the study of human physiology Freud found out that the sub-consciousness hugely existed in our mind, which was far beyond our original imagination. What's more, during the Renaissance the great revival of arts--painting, craving, music, and so forth--broke through the traditional religious thought. And thus, as the spirit of humanity and self-expression were actively encouraged since then, a new page in human history was opened. It is thus clear that the pursuit of knowledge plays a positive role in the human self development.
What's more important, the increasingly comprehensive interdisciplinary knowledge system--such as environmental science and social science--equips people to better understand the relationship between human and the outside world. The experts in the field of environmental science can tell us how the ecological balance is destroyed dramatically by our modern technology. While the social science professors can help to instruct the way feasible way to
protect this previous balance, like advisably changing throwaway life types. In the process of in-depth study about these complicated interrelations between human and society, it is ultimately learnt that we are used to be so overconfident about conquer the nature and ignorant of the power of the nature.
All in all, the speaker’s statement is fundamentally correct. Through the study of academic disciplines, we can cheerfully find out that we know the world and ourselves better than before and which make us dealing with the complicated relation between human and the nature better. And then, lead our world to a much more brilliant future with an improved sight of view. (507 words)
