独立:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement:
Telephone has greater influence on people’s lives than TV. (Media)

Telephones and televisions have come into human’s daily life for decades and both of them are playing an indispensable part in it. As getting used to them, we often come across an argument that which brings more effects on earth. In my opinion, I deem telephone influences us at a wider and deeper degree.

The emergence of telephones has solved the problem of distant contact, drawing each other much closer than ever before. A call from the son working in a remote and unfamiliar city, always sounds like a cup of warm tea in the winter, satisfying old parents with relieved eyes and happy smiles. Using telephones, friends share past memories and future plans together. Despite of far distance, the friendship transmitted through the telephone line remains as before, sometimes even get stronger. In such a rapid-running society, leaning inside a kiosk, experiencing the current peace with a phone call to parents, lovers or friends, can develop the closest and truest reaction with each other.

Usually, telephones serve as a crucial role in people’s life, providing the most convenient and efficient contact way. If there’s something wrong with the products we have bought, a call to the relevant after-service will directly help deal with it. Even in the widely broadcasted commercials on television, one of the most frequently repeated parts is the sales hot-line. Especially, when there’s an emergency happened, calling 911 is always the best solution to release from it. The wide-spread utilization of telephones is not only because of its distinctive efficiency, but also on account of its helpful advantage in unexpected cases.

Admittedly, people are able to enrich knowledge and have fun by watching TV programs; however, without televisions people wouldn’t feel as inconvenient or uncomfortable as that without telephones.

In sum, considering different respects of human life, I deem that telephones are affecting us more than televisions.

听力很差 所以听了好几遍~~ 咋办呢 听力...

The professor in the lecture discusses thePortrait of an Elderly Woman in a white Bonnet is indeed painted by Rembrandt, disagreeing with what the reading talks about.

First, the fur color was examined that itwas added over the cover of this painting after 100 years. It was notoriginally painted by Rembrandt. People did this probably in order to increasethe value of this work by making it look like a formal portrait of a gracefullady.

As to the light and shallow of thepainting, when the fur color is removed, the original portrait is a womanwearing a light colored collar. It reflects light and illuminates the woman’sface, appearing no partial shadow on her face. In addition, the light andshadow are as realistic as what people expect in Rembrandt’s paintings.

To the opposite of what reading regards theused panels, with the added fur color, the wood panel was enlarged with extrawood pieces glued to it. As a result, the painting looks more grand andvaluable. More important, it was found that the original work is from the sametree used for another Rembrandt’s work, a self-portrait with a hat.

So, according to the new research, the Portraitof an Elderly Woman in a white Bonnet was created by Rembrandt.

Do you agree or disagreewith the following statement? Advertising is the most important cause ofunhealthy eating habits.

13:18-14:27  写的还是很慢啊

As food advertisements are spreading their antennato each tiny corner in people’s life, we come across an argument that whetheradvertising is the most significant cause of unhealthy eating habits. In myopinion, I don’t agree with it.

Advertising is far from the major cause ofmisleading people to unhealthy eating ways. The true reasons are always hidingbehind. As the pace of life speeding up, people tend to be pushed into a quite busyworld of eating quicker and faster. Taxi drivers treasure every second forpicking up passengers and always have to take a short lunch with simple food. Forcompany staffs, an emergent conference is important enough to drag one away from dinner time. In all of these unexpected but common situations, it can be imagined how difficult to cultivate a healthy eating habit.

With more extensive concerns about body health, plenty of video lectures and programs on eating habits have emerged. The attention focused on these programs from the public has totally overweighed that paid to advertisements of fast-food or any other unhealthy diet. In particular, older people seem to be more interested in these topics and fairly willing to pass the knowledge onto their family members and friends as widelyas possible. Consequently, advertisements are barely able to lead any fashion of eating unhealthy.

Admittedly, some food commercials excel atattracting amounts of children to eat fried chickens or potato chips, such asKFC and McDonald. They arouse up kids’ interest by providing cute toys anddolls in the restaurants. However, children are also well taught and controlled by teachers and parents to develop a good eating habit, greatly counteracting the unhealthy impacts from advertising.

So, in sum, considering different aspects in our daily life, I don’t support that people’s unhealthy eating habit was mainly resulted from advertisements.

TPO4

TPO4

While the reading material argues dinosaursas endotherms, the speaker in the lecture casts her challenges on it withseveral opposite opinions.

First, though fossils of Polar dinosaurshave been found in the cold Polar Regions, it cannot confirm that dinosaurs areendotherms. The temperature at that time was much warmer than that in currentdays so dinosaurs could easily survive in temperate seasons. Even in coldmonths, migration and hibernation were also ways for their survival.

As for the legs of dinosaurs, they helpedto support more weight, which allowed dinosaurs to grow into a large size. Theuse of legs benefits dinosaurs a lot it, but it doesn’t necessarily indicatethey’re endotherms.

Finally, admittedly some dinosaurs have abone structure of Haversian canals; however, they also have growth rings. Thegrowth rings provide evidence that dinosaurs didn’t grow rapidly in certain period. They probably had grown slowly or even stopped growing in cooler seasons. This periodicgrowth exactly demonstrates, on the adverse side of what reading materialsdiscusses, that dinosaurs are not endotherms.
