argument2我的一篇习作

In this argument, the arguer recommends that homeowners in Deerhaven Acres should adopt their own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting. To justify this claim, the arguer provides the evidence that Brookville community’s example, after a set of restrictions on how the community yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted and after a few years, average property values have tripled in Brookville. A major assumption underlying this argument is that the average property values will increase sharply in Deerhaven Acres. This line of reasoning is flawed in several aspects.

The major problem with this argument is the unwarranted assumption that the thing that happened in Brookville will happen in Deerhaven Acres. The arguer assumes that the restrictions on the community's yards and the exteriors of homes cause the average property values increased sharply. The arguer from this makes a conclusion that Deerhaven Acres should take the same measures. However, this assumption is groundless. Brookvill may have a high percentage of economic increase and the property values' increase maybe the result of the economic increasing. And the environment of Brookvill may changed a lot recent years ,so many people want to live this .We also cannot expel a situation that the property value may just because the number of people increased, if the number is tripled or even more, we cannot say that that's the restrictions result the average property values' increase.

Another problem that undermines the argument is that the arguer commits the false analogy. Even Brookville’s housing price has tripled for seven years is because the restrictions, maybe Brookvill located the side of ocean, there are many visitors who want to buy or rent house in Brookvill, while Deerhaven maybe an inland town that are few travelers. If this happened, we cannot just copy the ways that Brookvill taken, we should built more interesting things to attract more people. On the other hand, Brookvill may have a good community, so the outsiders may want to resident there. This aspects of Deerhaven Acres maybe very poor .If so, we should construct more railways, highways and take other measures to improve our community rather than to adopt a set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting.

Last but not least, the arguer fails to take into account several other factors that might weaken the reasoning in this argument. What’s the proposal of the residents of Deerhaven Acres? They may do not want to do so. And the income of the residents, if they do not have enough money to repainting their house then the restrictions is just a holly word.

In sum, the conclusion lacks credibility because the evidence cited in the analysis does not lend strong support to what the arguer maintains. To strengthen the argument ,the arguer would have to provide more evidence concerning that the reason of the property values tripled in Brookvill .To better evaluate the argument ,we should need more information regarding the difference of Brookvill and Deerhaven Acres.
